Backpacks of Hope

For many students backpacks and school supplies are taken for granted. But for those students whose families have limited resources, a backpack and school supplies can take on a new meaning. Backpacks of Hope is a ministry of Lakeshore Church that provides essential school items for needy students.

More than 16 million kids live in extreme poverty in the U.S. and arrive on the first day of school without the supplies they need to learn. 39% of New Orleans children live in poverty, 17% above the national average, meaning close to half of all children living in New Orleans have no resources to purchase school supplies.

Backpacks of Hope offers your church opportunity to support students in the "City That Care Forgot". All backpacks are distributed individually through the ministry of Lakeshore Church at the beginning of each school semester. Backpacks contain a New Testament, gospel tract and essential school supply items.

We invite churches, Sunday school classes, small groups and individuals to support the ministry of Backpacks of Hope by purchasing Elementary and/or Jr High/High Backpack Kits. Participating is as easy as clicking on the link below. What a great way to support church planting and missions by providing a child in need with a new backpack and school supplies this semester.
